City Connection  Jaleco;Jaleco USA (Hect)1985***
[100]***シティコネクション literally reads
shiti konekushon
***The goal in "City Connection" is to drive with your car over each segment of all platforms while avoiding police cars and other stuff (especially a very nasty cat that always appears on the road when you least expect it). In addition to the ability to jump, your car can shoot enemies. After completing a stage you make your way to the next stage which takes place in another famous city somewhere in the world. City Connection is a strange platform game, but not without its qualities. Graphics and sound are ok for a game from 1985 and the gameplay is motivating enough to try the game for a couple of rounds.***Based on the arcade hit, a young man born in California sets out to tour famous sites and cities around the world. As he drives the highways surrounding these locations, the road is painted white as proof of his visit. Only once all sections of the road have been painted will he move on to the next location in his world tour. Not surprisingly, the local police will chase the driver and do their best to stop him from completing his goal. In addition, cats roam the highways and spikes lie in wait for unsuspecting drivers. To combat these dangers, the driver's customized car can jump, fire cans of oil and collect balloons to warp to a new stage. It's the ultimate road trip.

Nagagutsu o Haita Neko: Sekai Isshuu 80 Nichi Daibouken  Toei (Shouei System)1986This game is based on an old anime movie and obviously rooted in the novel "Around the World in Eighty Days" by Jules Verne. It is a platform/shooter mix, each level representing a different country/part of the world. In nearly each level you are in a different vehicle, ranging from boats and cars to balloons and even a level where you are controlling a submarine. However this diversity is already the most interesting part. The rest is really average. Shoot enemies here, jump over pits there. It is playable but nothing special. labelimageminimize
Sherlock Holmes: Hakushaku Reijou Yuukai Jiken  Towa Chiki (Another)1986***I don't know what the goal is in this game. You run around in different British cities and try to find clues about something I don't know about. And actually I couldn't care less, because the game is bad, one of the worst games for the Famicom I have played so far. So, there you have your top-view running around in the city scenes, where you kick and stab innocent looking citizens to gain money. Additionally there are locations where the game switches to side-view platform scenes, which have terrible controls. And everytime! you beat one of the numerous evil looking humans the game stops and gives you a text message which might be some kind of hints. And everything in this game, all items and clues are very well hidden. Yes, I admit that many old games had things very well hidden on the brink of unfairness, but at least they had acceptable controls. The music is an extremely annoying high-pitched something. So eventually (if you happen to play this game for longer than 5 minutes) you might buy a trip to the next city for more unplayable action goodness. I can't see anything positive about this game. labelimageminimize
Meitantei Holmes: Kiri no London Satsujin Jiken  Towa Chiki (Another)1988"Meitantei Holmes: Kiri no London Satsujin Jiken" is the second game based on famous detective Sherlock Holmes for the NES from Towachiki. In contrast to the first game, the totally crappy Sherlock Holmes: Hakushaku Reijou Yuukai Jiken they chose to create a standard Japanese menu-driven adventure game. Not very imaginative, but at least this time the game works well enough. On a map of London you walk to different places, question people, solve some puzzles etc. Being in Japanese its hard to follow the story and thus didn't develop its strength for me. Graphically the game only features monotone background scene graphics. Technically it looks a bit cheap, but in this special case it fits the atmosphere positively. In the end it is exactly what you would expect from an average Japanese murder mystery adventure game. labelimageminimize

True-blue Pero has been "cat-apulted" back through time by the terrible Count Gruemon.
